After your registration in the Personal Records Database, you are able to open a Dutch bank account with your BSN-number (social security number). Transferred to your bank accountįrom June onward, your living allowance will be transferred to your Dutch bank account. Are you registered mid-month? Then you will receive the living allowance for the days from which you are registered. Living allowance is paid from the date of registration in the Personal Records Database. When you live with a host family, you immediately need money for food, for example. The remaining € 55 can be used for miscellaneous expenses or to make a voluntary contribution to the host family. € 260 of this allowance is meant to be spend on food, groceries and clothing.

This is because you will need to provide for your own food in this temporary home. This amount is higher than when you are accommodated in a hotel. You will receive € 260 per month per person if you stay in a temporary municipal shelter. This is also the case for the month in which the registration in the Personal Records Database was completed by the municipality. Therefore, you will not receive a living allowance for the month in which you registered. The municipality does not pay living allowance in the hotels with a retroactive effect. You will receive the living allowance at the beginning of the month. Because the hotel offers you meals, your living allowance doesn’t include money for food. You can use this amount to buy things you need. If you are staying in a hotel, you will receive € 55 per month, per family member. For example, if you register during the month, you will only receive living allowance for the remainder of that particular month. Another determining factor is your date of registration in the Personal Records Database. The amount of living allowance you receive, depends on the place where you are staying. You will only receive a living allowance if you are unemployed.
